German gunboat SMS Tiger visited the Dutch East Indies in 1909

The Jaarboek van de Koninklijke Nederlandsche Zeemacht 1908-1909 reported that the German gunboat SMS Tiger visited Surabaya between 31 January-9 February 1909 and Poeloe Laoet, Dutch East Indies between 10-12 February 1909. The Bataviaasch nieuwsblad dated 1 February mentioned her presence coming from Kiautschau intending to leave on 8 February towards Poeloe Laut and Manilla, Philippines. One of her officers was the son of the Prince von Hessen. She had continuous wireless contact with the German armored cruiser SMS Fürst Bismarck which arrived yesterday at Pasoeroean. The edition dated 9 February reported her departure the same day. The De Locomotief dated Wednesday 3 February reported her arrival at Surabaya coming from Singapore on Sunday afternoon 31 January. She was armed with 2-10cm guns, 6-3.7cm guns and 5 machine guns. Speed 16 miles. Crew numbered 10 officers and 125 sailors. Her commanding officer Ackerman visited on Monday morning the several Dutch authorities at Surabaya.(1)
