Montana-class (BB 67-71) was to consist of the Montano, Ohio, Maine, New Hampshire and Louisiana preceded by Iowa-class but never completed while aircraft carriers and amphibious and anti-submarine vessels were more needed. In the design process was asked for a battleship of 45,000 ton 27 knots speed and 12-16” guns. The first design 65A was based on the South Dakota. In design BB 67-4 was the displacement increased to 61,500 (standard)-72,104 (full load)-73,076 (emergency load) tons. On 21 July 1943 was the Montana-class cancelled.
