Japanese Ise-class battleships modernized according to the Dutch magazine Marineblad 1934 no. 7

An item referred to the Proceedings dated November 1934 reported that the Japanese battleships Hyuga (1) and Ise (2) were being modernized. The modernisation included improved protected above and under water, increased elevation of the guns, renewal of the machinery including boilers, adding fire control, catapults and anti aircraft armament. With a decrease of their speed from 27,5 to 26 knots were the battle cruisers nu officially classified as battleships.

1. Part of Ise-class preceded by Ise-class succeeded by Nagato-class. Laid down by Mitsubishi, Nagasaki, Japan on 6 May 1915, launched on 27 January 1917, completed on 30 April 1918 and broken up between 2 July 1946-4 July 1947.

2. Part of Ise-class preceded by Ise-class succeeded by Nagato-class. Ordered on 11 April 1913, laid down by Kawasaki, Kobe, Japan on 10 May 1915, launched on 2 November 1916, completed on 15 December 1917, stricken on 20 November 1945 and broken up en situ between 9 October 1946-4 July 1947.
