Sistership Nix, design of prince Adalbert von Preussen and British shipwright Sir John Russell and built in 1850, commisioned on 1 July 1851. Both ships were harrassed by problems and exchanged for the British sailing corvette Thetis in 1855. The Salamander was renamed Weser served afterwards as a harbourship at Malta or as part of the reserve and old to be broken up in 1865. Displacement 430 ton and as dimensions 53.8 x 12.7 (over paddle wheels) metres. Horsepower 13 knots. Crew numbered 74 men. Design armament 4-25 pd bomb guns and 4-12pd guns.
