Portuguese garrison on the Azores increased in September 1941

In his letter No. 13057 dated Lisbon 25 September 1941 reported the German naval attaché in Portugal to the Oberkommando der Kriegsmarine at Berlin that according to a tiding from Horta dated 18 September the garrison was increased to nearly 4,000 men. There were also more machine gun bunkers on the mole on the sea and port sides completed or under construction. At the moment was the setting up from net barriers trained.
