In his letter No. 1519 dated Lisbon 29 October 1941 reported the German naval attaché in Portugal to the Oberkommando der Kriegsmarine at Berlin the arrival of a British Type G destroyer at Ponte Delgada, São Miguel, Azores at 17:00 o’clock 26 October with on board a large number of heavy wounded men probably belonging to another warship of a merchant ship. The naval attaché believed that the men were wounded during a battle on 26 October near the Azores. The destroyer coming from Gibraltar would load supplies and to depart with dawn towards Gibraltar.
