An item referred to the Le Yacht dated February 1940 reporting the launching on 7 January 1940 of the Italian submarines Luigi Torelli (1) and Capitan Raffaelle Tarentini.(2) Range seemed to be 12.000 nautical miles. With a horsepower of 3.600 hp was the speed 18 miles. Displacement 1.040 tons and as dimensions 75.3 x 6.82 x 4.72 metres. Armament consisted of 2-10cm guns, 1 machinegun and 8-53,3cm/21” torpedo tubes.

Part of Marconi-class, laid down by OTO, La Spezia, Italy on 15 February 1939, launched on 6 January 1940, commissioned on 15 May 1940, seized by Japanese on 8 September 1943, handed over to Germany on 10 September 1943, renamed UIT-25, after German surrendered, in Japanese service as I-504 until 30 August 1945 and scuttled by the American navy in the Kii Strait on 16 April 1946.
2. Capitano Tarantini. Part of Liuzzi-class, laid down by Cantieri Navale Tosi di Taranto, Taranto, Italy on 5 April 1939, launched on 7 January 1940, commissioned on 16 March 1940 and torpedoed and sunk by the British submarine HMS Thunderbolt in the Bay of Biscay, south west of the Gironde Estuary, Near Bordeaux, France on 15 December 1940.
