Russian squadron entering the Suez Canal according to the Dutch newspaper De Sumatra Post dated 23 January 1904

Original postcard Chocolate La Estrella

An item dated London, England 23 January reported that the Russian squadron consisting of the battleship Aurora (1), the transport Orel, the collier Saratoff and 9 torpedo boats entered the Suez Canal. The cruiser Kubanetz stayed behind at Port Saïd, Egypt.(2)

Notes

1. Not a battleship but the still existing Pallada-class protected cruiser laid down by Admiralty Shipyard, Saint Petersburg, Russia on 23 May 1897.

2. The Russo-Japanese war between 8 February 1904-5 September 1905.

  1. Why is there a Soviet flag on the picture not an Imperial Russian Navy ensign?
