Yarrow’s built Italian torpedo boat performed well during trials in April 1887

An item reported the results of the trials of a newly built torpedo boats by Messrs. Yarrow&Co., Poplar, England for the Italian Navy. On 14 April during her trial in the Lower Hope succeeded one boat to maintain a mean speed of 25.101 knots. During the quickest run made with the time was aven a speed of 27.272 achieved. The boat had a length of 140 feet and a displacement of nearly 97 ton. The 2x2 Yarrow two cylinder compound steam engines were were connected to the twin screws (1 screw/1 pair). Armed with 2 bow torpedo tubes and a second pair set at a small angle to each on a turntable aft (Yarrow’s patent) and on deck 2-3lb quick firing guns.
