German Sperrbrecher 32 x Mur in 1943-1944 appearance

This sperrbrecher was on 13 September 1939 launched at the yard Werk AG Weser Bremen, Germany as the motor ship Mur for the Norddeutscher Lloyd and building number 627. Between 26 October 1943 and 26 August 1944 serving as the Sperrbrecher 32 when the rebuilding as the hospital ship Munchen started. She was on 13 September of that year registered as a hospital ship by the International Red Cross although still not finished and the recoversion was on 23 January 1945 stopped.


After the Second World War was she on 2 September 1945 handed over to France and commissioned as the French naval transport Ile d'Oleron (A 610) and since 1957/1958 a weapons trials ship and finally in 2000 decommissioned. With a BRT of 3,290 tons were her dimensions 107,0 x 15,2 x 6,5 metres. Her speed was 14,2 knots. After her rebuilding was the displacement increased to 7,500 tons and dimensions 115,10 (over all) x 15,3 x 6,5 (maximum) metres.The two boilers and the two 2-stroke 6 cylinder diesel engines supplied 3,500 hp allowing a speed of 14 knots maximum. Her range was 14,000 nautical miles with an oil consumption of 830 tons. The armament consisted of 2x1-10,5cm guns,1x2-3,7cm anti aircraft guns, 4x2-2cm anti aircraft guns, 7x1-2cm anti aircraft guns and a so-sperrballon as defence against air attacks. She was able to disarm magnetic mines from a safe distance while serving as a so-called pathmaker.
