The Swedish coastal defence ship Thor 1894-1937
Part of the Oden-class with as sister ships the Oden and Niord. She was laid down at the yard of Bergsund, Stockholm 1894, launched on 9 March 1896, completed on 8 June 1897 and finally stricken in 1937. She was modernized in 1915 changing her appearance intensive while the original funnels were replaced by one broad one and one heavy mast removed. She also received new boilers.
With a displacement of 3,445 tons normal and 3,715 tons full load were her dimensions 84,8 (waterline)-86,3 (over all) x 14,78 x 5,28 metres. The triple expansion engines and 6 cylindrical boilers supplied 7,400 shp driving 2 screws allowing a speed of maximum 17 knots. Her crew numbered 252-252 men. The armament consisted of 2-254mm guns, 6-120mm guns, 10-57mm guns and 1-457mm bow torpedo tube. Other sources gave as original armament 2x1-243mm guns, 4x1-120mm guns, 10x1-57mm guns, 2x1-25mm and a 1-450mm bow torpedo tubes. The armour consisted of a 243mm belt while the gun turrets were protected by 200mm, the barbettes by 247mm, the casemates by 100mm, the conning tower by 247mm and finally the deck by 49mm.
