The Brazilian, French and Portuguese navies according to the Nederlandsche Staatscourant dated 21 April 1826

Paris, 17 April. The Brazilian emperor departed 2 February towards Bahia on board of the ship of the line Dom Pedro I, accompanied by his spouse and eldest daughter Maria da Gloria. As requested by captain Gautier was it permitted that the French frigate l’Aréthuse escorted the Dom Pedro I to her destination.
Lisbon, 1 April. A committee was appointed to depart towards Brazil and to congratulate the new king of Portugal. The duke Lafoens, related to the royal family, was head of the committee. Not the congratulation was the main mission but what the Brazilian emperor and the Austrian and British courts decided, was Portugal still independent or was she destined to be a Brazilian colony? The Portuguese ship of the line Dom Joao VI was ordered to bring the committee towards Brazil. The public feared that this ship, the most beautiful of the Portuguese navy, was lost for Portugal.
