The Swedish destroyer Smaland in 1955



The drawing is representing the destroyer in 1955. She was laid down at the Eriksbergs Mekaniska Verkstads AB, Gothenburg in 1951, launched 23 October 1952 and commissioned 12 January 1956. After being decommissioned in 1979, she left the servicen since 1 July 1984 and became a museum ship at Gothenburg. Together with her sister ship she belonged to the Halland-class. The other two projected sister ships were never built. Her pennant was J19. Dimensions 121 m x 12.6 m x 5.5 m, with a displacement of 3344 tons. Her steam turbines provided a speed of 35 knots. Her crew numbered 259 men. Armed with 2-twin 120mm Bofors guns, 1-twin 57mm Bofors gun, 6-40mm Bofors guns, 4-twin torpedo tubes, 1 Robot 08A anti-ship missile, 2-quad 375mm Bofors anti submarine rocket system (ASW), 58 mines and one helicopter.
