French naval policy according to the Dutch newspaper Het Vaderland: staat- en letterkundig nieuwsblad morning edition dated 21 April 1934

According to the press association Havas was in the French magazine De Petit Bleu the same morning an article published written by the French minister of marine Pietri dealing with the French naval policy. The main task of her navy was to protect and guard a population of 100.000.000 residents spread over the continents resulting in an enormous field causing large problems to secure the food supply in times of war over long distances. There were three sea frontiers to protect and a good communication with some parts of the state like Corsica and Alger could only be secured if there was a strong naval force available.Pietri also claimed that France gave a good example of peaceful thoughtfulness with settling the fourth rank within the major naval powers. France had just to maintain this minimum by having a large variety of ships suited for each purpose and a complete naval air force working harmonious with the fleet.
