The Japanese naval policy according to the Dutch newspaper Nieuwe Tilburgsche Courant dated 28 November 1934

The Japanese minister of foreign affairs Hirota explained the Japanese naval policy to the Italian ambassador and the French chargé d’affaires at Tokyo and that a result of this policy the Naval Treaty of Washington was to be disposed. He invited France and Italy to act similarly. In Paris wasn’t men enthusiastic of the Japanese decision and although they intended to study it thoroughly it was unknown what France would decided. The tidings didn’t surprise London while men knew that Japan wanted that the states who signed this treaty would dispose it. The United Kingdom and the USA however intended to maintain it.
