Tokyo, 8 February. The spokesman of the Japanese navy reacted on questions caused by foreign tidings according to which the Dutch government intended to establish at Surabaya a naval base and to built 3 battle cruisers by answering that he didn’t receive definitive tidings.(1) If these tidings however were correct he said that the Dutch policy was just a misunderstanding of the Japanese policy regarding southern countries while the Japanese policy just wanted to increase the economic relations with these countries.

Note
1. These battle cruisers were never built.
