The master of the Austrian ship Adam Marsao, who left Zante 18 October, arrived at Trieste with tidings of a battle between the Turkish fleet and a Grecian division in the Bought of Prodano. The latter were beaten and 7 of their ships were beached near Cascalo, some others captured by the Turkish and the resting fled. At Trieste arrived 1 November some vessels coming from Zante, Corfu and Calamata after a voyage of 9-10 days which the tidings that Tripolitza was captured and except for 3 Turkish officers was everyone in the fortress murdered. They also stated that 7 October the Grecian fleet beat the Turkish off Navarino, capturing 21 Turkish ships, burning 12 while the resting arrived 21 October at Zante. There they were saved by a British force. This resulted in a fight between the British and the population of Zante. This action however couldn’t yet be stated by the Dutch newspaper. Tidings coming via England from Corfu dated 21 October stated that 13 October 18 Grecian ships forced a Turkish brig on the beach but fled when other Turkish ships arrived at the scene. And that indeed at that occasion natives of Zante shot at British soldiers.
