French gunboat Doudart de Lagree at Shanghai according to the Dutch newspaper Het nieuws van den dag voor Nederlandsch-Indië dated 3 September 1914

The French gunboat Doudard de Lagrée arrived at Shanghai via the Jangtze river and was there unrigged with the purpose to stay there until the European crisis was ended.(1)

1. Named after Ernest Doudart de :Lagrée (31 March 1823 Saint Vincent de Mercuze near Grenoble-12 March 1868 Dongchuan, Yunnan, China), French naval officer in command of the Mekong Expedition of 1866-1868, but also an entomologist. The very interesting website http://www.hmsfalcon.com/foreign/foreign.htm said that she was part of the Doudart de Lagree-class with a dispalcement of 240 tons and a length f 53 metres, Disarmed in 1939, stricken on 27 June 1949 and transferred to China. Her final fate remains unknown until now. Conway’s All the World’s Fighting Ships 1906-1921 claims that she was sold in 1906.
