USA founded naval base in the West German harbour Bremerhaven according to the Dutch newspaper Nieuwsblad van het Noorden dated 17 April 1951

An item reported that the USA was founding a naval force based in the West German harbour Bremerhaven as a reaction on the potential threat by the East German navy. The new force already existed of four minesweepers of 600 tons and some cutters and torpedo boats, which were former German ships now repaired and again fitted out. They were maintained by the US navy but their crews existed for 80% of former German navy sailors. There were however yet none intentions to found an independent West German navy.
