French sailors now allowed to serve on board of French merchant ships in service of one of the belligerents according to the Dutch newspaper Delftsche Courant dated 27 August 1940

An item reported that a day early Vichy France published a law which forbade officers and sailors of the merchant navy to serve on board of French ships controlled by one of the belligerents with penalties for offenders.(1) The law was meant to prevent the enrolment of French sailors by England.

1. Vichy France also known as Vichy Regime, Vichy Government or just Vichy was the French government which collaborated with the Axis powers (Germany-Italy-Japan) between July 1940 and August 1944 and which was the opponent of the Free French Forces in London. The latter became in June 1944 the Provisional Government of the French Republic.
