Austrian naval strength according to the Dutch newspaper Dagblad van ‘s Gravenhage dated 8 May 1850

An item dated Frankfurt 5 May reported that the Austrian government wished to posses within a short term 6 ships of the line, 10 frigates and 12 armed steamships excluded the desire for smaller vessels.

The newspaper De Nederlander dated 8 May  reported that that according to a program handed over to the Austrian emperor within 15 years the Austrian navy would included 6 ships of the line, 10 frigates, 12 steamships and a large number of corvettes, brigs etc. The number of sailors was to be increased to a number of 1,700. Presumably the reporter wanted to say an increase with 1,700 sailors!

The newspaper Arnhemsche Courant published an item dated Vienna 15 April that within two years the Austrian navy would consist of 2 ships of the line, 20 frigates and corvettes and 12 steamships.
