An item dated Trieste 11 June reported that the Turkish sultan left Constantinople on 2 June towards the Archipelago to start with Smyrna , Scio and Rhodos. The Turkish fleet commanded by the capudan pasha left the Dardanelles on 31 May towards the Archipelago. She consisted of 4 ships of the line, 2 frigates, 3 corvettes and 3 smaller vessels. The sultan was escort by a squadron of steamships.
