Spanish freighters Aldeceao and Antonio de Satrustegui lost according to the Dutch newspaper Het Vaderland dated 8 September 1937

An item reported that according to tidings received from Algiers the freighters Aldeceao and Antonio de Satrustegui both owned by the Spanish government left a day earlier at 07.00 o’clock Algiers underway to Valencia. Around 14.00 o’clock both ships stranded off Cherhcell after being pursued by the cruiser Canarias.(1)

1. At that moment was the Spanish Civil War (17 July 1936-1 April 1939) going on started as a conflict between a group of generals and the cabinet of the Second Spanish Republic. The heavy cruiser 10,840 tons (standard) Canarias of 1928 and with a main armament of 4x2-8” guns served as the flagship of the Nationalist Navy and responsible for sinking 34 ships.
