British transport Tyndareus lost after striking a mine according to the Dutch newspaper Middelburgsche Courant dated 29 March 1917

An item reported that on 9 February the British transport Tundareus struck a mine off Cape Agulhas, South Africa. She transported a regiment infantry which were taken on board of two steamships sent to aid her. She was able although heavily damaged with her own engines to reach for Simonstown.

The edition of the De Zeeuw of the same date wrote that the incident happened during a heavy storm an she immediately started to sink with her bow first lifting the screws out of the water. All men were ordered to gather and to go in the life-boats what was done with all calmness and order. After all names were checked started the whole battalion to sing a hymn. Two steamships sent to aid her arrived within 30 minutes. The Tyndareus finally arrived at Simonstown with two cargo holds filled with water and a third one leaking.
