Transport Mendi wrecked according to the Dutch newspaper Middelburgsche Courant dated 10 March 1917

An item reported that Bothe informed the parliament of South Africa that the transport Mendi with on board several South African workmen destined towards France collided in the mist underway from England to le Havre and sunk within 25 minutes. Ten Europeans and 615 natives drowned, 12 Europeans and 191 natives were saved. The Soldaten Courant dated 14 March confirmed this item just adding that she sunk on 21 February within 25 minutes and this was the last transport of South African workmen destined for France.
