An item dated Washington 7 December reported that the US coast guard was ordered to guard the Finnish merchant ships lying in US ports. These measures included the Bolivia at Boston, the Kuutanes and the ms Saimaa at New York, the Aavana at Philadelphia, the Aagot at Baltimore and the ms Arora at Newport News. Mostly it were elder ships of 1.000-3.000 tons. The federal shipping authorities stated that until now with permission of the British cabinet 24 Finnish ships were present in the waters of the western hemisphere of which eleven Panamanian flagged and one Cuban flagged.
