British fleet sweeping sloop HMS Snapdragon 1914-1934
Of the Arabis-class. General specifications 1.250 (normal) tons and as dimensions 81,7 (over all) x 10,2 x 3,4 metres or 286’ x 33’6”x 11’. The one shaft engine and two boilers supplied 2.000 ihp allowed a speed of 16 knots. Cola bunker capacity 130 tons. The crew numbered 90 men. Launched at Ropner, Stockton-on-Tees on 21 December 1915 and sold on 4 May 1934 to Cashmore, Newport. In 1930 was indicated that she was fitted out for Fleet Target Duties. She had now a powerful engine for towing purposes and further more at the stern a special cinema cabinet allowing to make motion photographs during target shooting exercises to record the results. This cabinet however influenced her seaworthiness causing rolling and further more was her speed reduced.
