An item dated Constantinople 15 January reported that ten Turkish officers including a son of the sultan went on board of the American warships in the Mediterranean with the purpose to study in the USA naval issues. Another Dutch newspaper Algemeen Handelsblad dated the 15th reported that the US Navy department approved their visit to the USA and to study the US navy with as main purpose to improve the Turkish navy. The Turkish fleet commission now present in London made the necessary arrangements.
