The naval base at Singapore according to the Dutch newspaper Algemeen Handelsblad dated 18 April 1930

An item reported that in the House of Commons on the 17th the minister of navy Alexander (1) was asked what the results of the Naval Treaty (2) were for the naval base at Singapore. Was the intention to continue founding a new base especially with the facilities for docking and repairing battleships? Alexander answered that he could not say anything with certainty dealing with this matter. As soon as possible had it to be discussed with the cabinets of the Dominions.

Albert Victor Alexander, 1st Earl Alexander of Hillsborough (1 May 1885 Weston-super-Mare, Somerset-11 January 1965 London} was First Lord of the Admiralty in the period 1 June 18929-24 August 1931, 11 May 1940-25 May 1945 and finally 3 August 1945-4 October 1946 and finally minister of defence 20 December 1946-28 February 1950.
2. The London Naval Treaty was signed on 22 April 1930 (ratifications on 27 October) between England, Japan, France, Italy and the USA with the intension to regulate (future submarine) warfare and to limit naval shipbuilding.
