An item reported that Russian representatives offered at the cargo market at New York 50% above the usual prices to acquire tankers for transporting crude oil from the Black Sea area towards China. At the cargo market was however still not much interested in these offers.(1) The large tank ship companies were afraid for the reactions of the major Western oil concerns with which they did business. Smaller shipping companies not doing business with these concerns were interested in the offers.
Note
1. At that moment was the so-called Cold War (1945-1991) still major issue in the world with a struggle between the Western and the Eastern worlds for political and military hegemony. The Vietnam war was still going on with the notorious Cuban Missile Crisis of 1962 still ahead.
