Dutch tug Schelde assisting stranded Japanese motor ship Nagato Maru according to the Dutch newspaper De Waarheid dated 7 December 1960

An item reported that the Dutch tug Schelde of L. Smit en Co’s Internationale sleepdienst was sent to the harbour Famagusta, Cyprus to assist  with the salvage of the stranded Japanese motor ship Nagato Maru. The Schelde (1) could arrived the next morning. The three years old Nagato Maru of 8.254 gross registers ton was loaded with general cargo. The Yugoslavian tug Snjeznik which was earlier sent was in the meantime also stranded.

1. Built in 1958 with yard number 864 at the Dutch shipyard J.&K. Smit’s Scheepswerven, Kinderdijk. She was the fourth tug with this name.
