Spanish inhabitants in Mexico financing new Spanish cruiser according to the Dutch magazine Marineblad 1899-1900 no. 5

An item referred to the magazine le Yacht which reported that at the shipyard at Cadiz the keel was laid down for a cruiser financed via a national advance order in the colony Mexico. With a displacement of 2.000 tons were her dimensions 88 x 11 metres. The speed was to be 17 miles. The armament consisted of 4-14cm guns, 4-10cm guns, 4-5,7cm guns, 2 machineguns and 2 launchers (torpedo tubes?).
