An item referred to a statement of the American vice admiral J.S. Thach, (1) commander in chief of the US Navy submarine fleet that thanks to the Soviet Union the Chinese navy was now fourth in rank of worlds’ largest submarine fleets. First was the Soviet Union, then the USA and the United Kingdom. Thach also claimed that the Soviet Union had at least 100 submarines active in the Pacific of which some were nuclear.(2)
