According to a tiding from Oran dated 14 July was the Prince de Joinville still cruising with his squadron off Algéciras waiting for the results of the negotiations with Morocco. To prevent any reasons for hostilities he still didn't went to Tangier. As soon as he heard of the British fleet coming towards these territories he wrote to the British representative at Gibraltar requesting that the British fleet wouldn't anchor of Tangier to avoid influencing the negotiations. His request was accepted and a small vessel was even send towards Sir Owen to visit Gibraltar.
