German Rhine lighter Mathilde 1879-

Her building at the Dutch shipyard Kon.Mij. De Schelde at Vlissingen, Netherlands was ordered by Johann Faber, Duisburg, Germany on 4 December 1879 with yard number 17, keel laid down on 22 January 1880 in the thrushes on 3 April, plated on 4 June launched on 26 June and delivered on 10 July. She was iron-built with as dimensions 70 (prow) x 9,70 x 0,34 (fore, empty)-485 (aft) x 2,10 (hold) metres or 230’0”x 31’10”x 13 3/8’-19 1/8’x 6’11” and a deadweight of 1.800. Cargo capacity 500 ton or 51.000 cubic feet. She was to be delivered covered over the overall length with hatches and winches but with but without inventory. For the hull was 130 ton iron and 30 ton wood expended.Contracted building costs ƒ 32.000,00, real costs ƒ 35.265,32 (materials ƒ 21.571,56, labour ƒ 9.252,54 and 48% expenses) resulting in a loss of ƒ 3.265, 32.
