American bark Venus visited Willemstad, Curacao according to the Dutch newspaper De Curacaosche courant dated 6 April 1861

An item reported the arrival on the 2nd of the American bark ship Venus captain Atkinson with news about the Civil War. She was to depart on Saturday the 13th back to New York, USA. Her captain announced that no credits were to be given to her crew as he would refuse to pay any debts. The rate of freight from New York to Curacao was raised with 16 2/3%. The price on goods until now reckoned to te 35 cent each cubic foot was raided to 40 cents. Freight prices Willemstad-New York were not changed.
