American gunboat USS Saco visited Willemstad, Curacao according to the Dutch newspaper De Curacaosche courant dated 12 January 1867

An item reported the departure of Willemstad, Curacao on Saturday the 5th of the steam warship USS Saco commanded by H. Wilson towards Aspinwall, USA.(1)

Launched at the Boston Navy Yard, Massachusetts, USA on 28 August 1863, commissioned on 11 July 1864, decommissioned at the Mare Island Navy Yard, San Francisco, California, USA on 13 July 1876 and finally sold to William E. Mighell on 20 November 1883. With a displacement of 603 tons/593 long tons were her dimensions 54,71 x 9,30 x 3,51 metres or 179’6” x 30’6”x 11’6”. Speed 9,5 knots and a crew numbering 127 men. The armament consisted of 1-100 pd gun, 1-30pd Parrott rifle, 6-32pd guns, 1-32pd smoothbore gun, 1-24pd howitzer and 1-12pd rifle.
