Dutch mail-passenger-cargo ship Sibajak 1925-1959

Ordered on 29 May 1925, steel ordered on 2June, steel arrived on 9 September, contract for her building was signed on 18/25 November, administration started on 19 November, laid down on South slip on 24 March 1926 with yard number 181, in thrushes on 5 October, plating fitted on 27 November, launched by Mrs. T. Mees-Bouvin on 2 April 1927, on 15-16 September main engine tested, on 20 and 23 December trial while berthed, technical trials 3-7 January 1928 and delivered the same day, maiden voyage begun 8 February, troop transport 1940, transport from Indonesia soldiers and civilians towards the Netherlands 1949-1950, emigrants towards South Africa and Australia 1950-1951, converted into a passenger ship at the Rotterdamsche Droogdok Maatschappij 8 August-13 October 1951, finally sold in March 1959 to be broken up and arriving October at Hong Kong.

Dimensions 154,15 (between perpendiculars)-161,55 (over all) x 19,03 x 10’-10 2/16” x 8,4 (hold betweendeck)-11,58 (main deck) metres. Gross tonnage 12.040 tons, net tonnage 7.9087 tons, deadweight 8.319 ton and 6.023 (when launched) displacement 18.144 tons. 3-Decks and 4 cargo hatches. Ballast 706 tons. Fuel bunker capacity 1.709 tons. Her crew numbered 234 men. Passenger accommodation 212 1st class, 174 2nd class, 68 3rd class and 34 4th class. Contracted speed 5,25 miles.
