British screw steam frigate HMS Megaera transporting sharpshooters to South Africa according to the Dutch newspaper Opregte Haarlemsche Courant dated 22 December 1851

An item dated London, England the 18th reported that the 1st battalion of the brigade sharpshooters now in garrison at Dover, England was unexpectedly ordered to be shipped with the steam frigate Megaera towards Cape of Good Hope.(1) This battalion returned just a year ago from this colony but was forced to go back while apparently this were the only sharpshooters available in England and familiar by the way of warfare by the native tribes there.
