American steamships St. Louis and New York examined for use as auxiliary cruisers according to the Dutch newspaper Leeuwarder courant dated 16 March 1898

An item dated New York, USA 15^th reported that the US commission responsible for purchasing merchant ships to be used as auxiliary cruisers examined the steamships St. Louis and New York.(1)
