An item dated Washington, USA 28 August reported that the American submarine chaser No. 209 with as homeport Philadelphia, USA was sunk by the merchant steamship Felix Tausig (1) early in the morning of the 27th off Fire Island, New York. The crew of the merchant ship thought she was a submarine. Of her crew consisting of men belonging to the Naval reserve were 17 men included the commanding officer and the 1st officer still missing. Of the rescued sailors were several wounded like Thomas Harran chief boatswains’ mate, Claude Wild engineers’ mate and Clarence S. Evans.
