An item dated Venice 11 June reported that the Senate gave the around 200 galley rowers their freedom back. Those men sold themselves for just a little financial compensation to serve on board of the galleys. The Senate compensated the commanding officers of the galleys for their expenses. Since centuries it had been a habit to sell yourself and to serve on board of a galley. The former slaves which were a citizen of the Venetian Republic were allowed to serve on board of the warships, the foreigners were allowed to return to their countries.
