American light cruiser USS Chester 1907-at least 1923


Omaha-class

Chester-design. Launched in 1907, completed in 1908, displacement 3.750 tons, horsepower 16.000 hp, coal-fired turbine direct drive machinery and an armament of 4-5” guns, 5 smaller guns, 2-21” submerged torpedo tubes.(1)

1. Building as scout cruiser ordered on 27 April 1904, contract awarded on 4 May 1905, laid down by Bath Iron Works, Bath, Maine on 25 September 1905, launched on 26 June 1907, commissioned on 25 April 1908, reclassified as CL-1 on 17 July 1920, decommissioned on 10 June 1921, renamed York on 10 July 1928 and sold to be broken up on 13 May 1930. Succeeded by the Omaha-class.
