US Navy building new destroyers at private and navy shipyards according to the Dutch magazine Marineblad 1915/1916 no. 5
An item referred to the Proceedings dealing with the new destroyers to be built for the US Navy by the private shipyards William Cramps&Sons, Philadelphia (2), Seattle Dry Dock and Construction (1), Bath Iron Works (1) and the Navy Yards at Mare Island and Norfolk (each 1). Building costs at the private shipyards varied between 845.000 and 885.000 US dollars for a destroyer. Displacement 1.125 tons. Oil fired. Speed 30 miles. An armament consisting of 10,5cm guns, anti aircraft guns and 4x3 torpedo guns. The destroyers were built according to a navy design except for the Bath Iron Works which used her own machinery design.
