Dutch protected corvette Hr. Ms. Sumatra lying with problems at Malta according to the Dutch newspaper Heldersche en Nieuwedieper Courant dated Sunday29 November 1891


An item reported that the long stay (5-18 October) by the Dutch protected corvette Hr. Ms. Sumatra (1) at Malta was caused by a broken axis of the pump movement of one of the engines. Further more were there problems with the lightning on board while some times the crew got little electric shocks. For this reason were from then on oil-fired lamps used in the engine room.
