British screw steam tug Marinia 1950‘s -1960’s



The screw steam tug (ex-Empire Aid 1943-1952) Marinia 1952-1954 (Huda 1954-1967). United Kingdom-flagged, homeport London, England, ON169180 and call sign MGQJ? Laid down as the Empire Aid 1943 by Clelands (Successors) Ltd., Willington, Tyneside, United Kingdom with yard number 69 as part of the Englishman class tugs on 27 November 1943, launched on 17 April 1944, handed over to the Ministry of Works&Transport and managed by the Overseas Towage and Salvage Co Ltd., London who bought her in 1952 and renamed Marinia, sold to Kuwait Oil Co Ltd., London and renamed Huda in 1954, resold to Hussain Hassan Deeb, Kuwait in 1965 and a year later reported as towed to Basrah while boiler, engines and superstructure were removed and thought to be dismantled in 1967. Dimensions 136 x 30.1 x 15.3 feet and a gross register tonnage of' 479 tons. Fitted out with 1-1.230ihp 3 cylinder oil fired steam engine manufactured by George Clark Ltd., Sunderland. Allowing a bollard pull of15 tons and a speed of 10 knots. Fuel oil bunker capacity 340 tons.

The Overseas Towage and Salvage Co Ltd., London had in 1955 a new ocean going tug named Marinia, United Kingdom-flagged, homeport London, launched by Cook Welton&Gemmell, Beverley, United Kingdom with yard number 899 on 16 October 1954, completed on 29 January 1955, renamed Salvana in 1966, renamed Maranaw in 1982 and broken up at Manila, Philippines on 20 November 1986. Tonnage 392 tons, net tonnage 41 tons and as dimensions 129.7 x 29.10 x 13.8 feet.
