The Polish Kolno-class colliers according to a CIA report dated 15 November 1954

An item reported that under the Polish Six Year plan the Kolno-class colliers was constructed at Stocznia Szcezecinska, the first one laid down in 1951 and completed two years later. There was yet little know about the vessels of which totally 32 were to be built. The deadweight was increased from originally 3.200 to 3.200 tons and the first two colliers [the Chulym and Tom] were fitted out with Polish produced engines and handed over to the Soviet Union. Of the 32 planned were just 8 for the Polish merchant shipping, the other 24 were for the Soviet Union.(1)

1. The Type B32 with a single screw steamship and 1-1.700ihp reciprocating steam engine? Fitted out with 4-5 ton derricks, 4-5/3 ton cargo winches and 4 guy steam winches. Speed 12,5 knots/105 rpm. If coal fuelled 3.000, if oil fuelled a range of maximum 5.000 nautical miles. Cargo capacity 4.314 cubic metres/152.284 cubic feet (bale)-4.484 cubic metres/158.285 cubic feet (grain). Dimensions 89,52 (between perpendiculars)-94,68 (overall) x 13,50 (moulded) x 6,26 (depth to main deck) x 5,56 (loaded) metres or 293’18½”-310’7½”x 44’3½” x 20’6”x 18’3”, a corresponding deadweight of 3.200 tons, gross tonnage 2.686 tons and net tonnage 1.344 tons.
