Laid down by B.V. scheepswerf en machinefabriek De Merwede, Hardinxveld-Giessendam, Netherlands on29 April 1975, launched on 18 December 1975 and commissioned on 10 November 1976 as the survey vessel Tydeman (A906) of the Royal Netherlands Navy. Displacement 900 tons and as dimensions (90,19 (over all) x 14,43 (maximum) x 4,75 metres. As Plancius gross tonnage 3.434 tons, deadweight 700 tons.
