French warships capturing or destroying British whalers according to the Dutch newspaper Vriesche courant dated 9 September 1806

An item dated Leeuwarden, Netherlands 8th referred to letters received from Christainsand, Norway of the 8th August reporting that a French squadron off Greenland captured or destroyed a large number of British Greenland whalers. At Bergen, Norway arrived two of the prizes with a part of the prisoners of war on board. The loss was estimated to be 1,5-2 million rijksdaalders. The French sailed to the west where just the British whalers intending to leave Davis Strait and captured /destroyed also these whalers. Before arriving off Greenland destroyed the French the British privateer of Leith with 20 guns and 120 men who had as order to chase for the German whalers
