Part of the Farragut-class, preceded by the Forrest Sherman-class and succeeded by the Charles F. Adams and Leahy-classes. Laid down by Bath Iron Works, Bath, Maine, USA on 10 August 1957, launched on 30 November 1958, acquired on 2 December 1959, commissioned on 7 December 1959, reclassified as a guided missile destroyer (DDG-45) in stead of a guided missile frigate (DLG-14) on 30 June 1975, decommissioned on 31 August 1990, stricken on 20 November 1992 and sold to J&L Metals, Wilmington, North Carolina, Netherlands to be broken up on 15 April 1994. Displacement 4.234 (light)-5.739 (deep load) tons and as dimensions 156,2 x 16 x 7,6 metres or 512.5 x 52 x 25 feet. The machinery consisted of 4x1.200psi water tube boilers and 2 geared turbines resulting with 85.000shp in a speed of 36,5 knots and with a speed of 20 knots a range of 4.500 nautical miles. Crew numbered 377 men including 21 officers. Armament consisted of 1-12,7cm/5” Mk 42 cal 54 dual purpose gun, 2x3-32,4cm/12.75” Mk3 torpedo tubes for which she carried Mark 46 torpedoes with her, 1 Mk 16 ASROC missile launcher, 1 Mk 10 Mod. 0 missile launcher for RIM-2Terrier missiles and 2 Mk 141 Harpoon missile launchers
